PowerBi WorkMeter: Power up your data analysis 🔗

Benefits of the integration 🔗

The purpose of this connector is to facilitate the import of data from WorkMeter products into the PowerBI Desktop platform.

This connector is in a beta phase, and aims to demonstrate functionality and facilitate integrations and data exploration by a platform external to WorkMeter, but it does not represent a feature for which WorkMeter offers a guarantee or official support.

This connector is limited to some functions (APIs) of the WorkMeter platform, and may not have access to all information available within WorkMeter.

Since this connector is a prototype and is in beta testing, the connector is not digitally signed, so some security settings will need to be changed to use it.

For security and performance reasons, data import is limited to 60 days.

Download and installation 🔗

The PowerBI connector for WorkMeter is packaged in the file with the extension WorkMeter. mez which can be downloaded from this link: [Link ]

For installation, you must copy WorkMeter.mez to the following local folder:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors
Note: the folder may not exist. If so, create it.

Once the connector is copied and for PowerBI to detect it for the first time, you must close and reopen PowerBI.

When opening PowerBI again, if the connector is correctly copied into the folder, a warning will appear stating that the WorkMeter connector is not certified. You must follow the instructions in this warning to allow the use of this connector (File->Options->Security) and change the option "Allow loading extensions without validation". Then restart PowerBI again.

Usage 🔗

Once inside PowerBI, you should go to the "Get Data" option and click on "More..." A list of connectors will appear, and in that list, you must find and select the connector called "WorkMeter (beta)".

This connector will allow us to select which API (dataset) we want to call to import the data, and the date range. Then it will ask for user credentials.

Once this is done, if the credentials are correct, it will show a preview of the possible tables (or list of tables) to import.

Some called APIs will return the data directly. In others, they will return queries that must be selected and added (for example, those with group or project filters), through the "transform data" option, and then with the left mouse button "Add as new query".

Solution to possible problems 🔗

Sometimes, the connector may show an error when retrieving data. This is because PowerBI uses a caching and data source system, which must be cleaned periodically to avoid this problem.

To avoid cache problems, try one of these two alternatives: 1. Clear cache:

  • File menu => Options and settings => Options => Data load => Data cache management options: Clear all.
  • File menu => Options and settings => Data source settings => Clear permissions for all data sources.

2. Refresh model

  • Press the button to update the data preview, or after clicking 'Transform Data' within Power Query.

More information and support 🔗

The PowerBI connector is a proof of concept, currently in "beta" stage (prototype), and WorkMeter does not offer official support for this connector.

The BETA phase has no scheduled end date, as it depends on adoption and reporting of possible errors, but even in BETA, it should be fully functional.

The 60-day limit has been established to avoid system overload. In the final version, this information will (presumably) be limited to 1 year.
